There is something about a rainy day that brings comfort to my exhausted soul. It forces me to slow down, cancel plans and just be. It gave me a chance to play playdoh with my toddler and finish my paper for school. It washed the pollen off my car and cobwebs off my porch. My freshly planted veggies look perky and my grass is glowing with rain drops.
What if we could see this beauty in all storms of our life. What if we could be cleansed, refreshed, restored by the drops of hope falling from our skies. What if we could then refresh others.
“whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” Proverbs 11:25
I recognize that joy is not always the first description you feel when the clouds are blanketing the sky and blocking the warmth of the sun. I know sadness, depression and lack of motivation often accompany the gloomy feels of the day. There is nothing shameful or wrong with these feelings, these emotions. They are yours and they are real. But don’t forget that just behind those clouds are the rays, the rays of sun that will bring warmth & light to the darkness. A fun fact from my skin care days is that the sun is actually stronger on a cloudy day. This is because the rays of the sun have to work harder to penetrate through the clouds. So for your skin this means, wear sunblock, protect yourself from the dangerous rays that burn and cause cancer. For your life this means that though the clouds (i.e.: suffering, depress, trials) may be blocking your sun (i.e: the Holy Spirit ), His light will be working even harder to get to you. To comfort you. You see the clouds and rain are not blocking our happiness, they are mere distractions that make His light have to shine that much harder. When we see the clouds as stress and the rain as it being released, we can embrace the rain as a cleansing, a restoration for new beginnings, pouring out the old so the new can sprout, grow & live!!! As I see the beautiful landscape that God created for us in the hues of our flowers and masterpieces of a beautiful sunset, I see His love. I see His restoration in our land. He himself says that we are worth so much more than the birds of the sky and flowers on the earth. We are His image, we are His greatest creation.
“Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are?” Matthew 6:26
“Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.” Luke 12:27
“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” Genesis 1:27
So as we all sit with our thoughts, our joy, our sadness let’s look to the heavens with mercy as they shower us with new life. Let’s let the spring of our soul sprout with great beauty and rise above with a new hope. Today will end. And in the words of orphan Annie…”The sun will come out, Tomorrow…”
It’s always my hope these words reach who they are intended for 💕
